Q.Who are you? (And sum it in one sentence please!)
A.I am staying in Pittsburgh, USA and am an engineer with a streak of design and usability in me somewhere (and yeah, some humor too!).
Q.Engineer and usability? (Oh I see, the humorist in you...)
A.No serious. I completed my Bachelors of Engineering in Electronics & Telecommunications (BE E&TC) from Army Institute of Technology, Pune University, India in 1999 and my Masters in Human Computer Interaction (MHCI) from Carnegie Mellon University, USA. So I have worked on projects from both perspectives, wearing different hats at different times. My current job has added a bit of
Q.So what are the types of projects that you have done?
A.I have done projects that involve hardware and software components, projects that involve brainstorming and developing design innovations, projects that involve usability evaluations among others. In my software projects, I have used different technologies, such as .NET, XML, XSLT, DOM, Scripting (both client and server side) with many languages including Java, C#, ASP, PHP etc. and have dabbled in both open-source and Microsoft-based platforms.
Q.So what are you interested in?
A.Ohhhhhoooo... You asked the wrong question. You should ask what I am NOT interested in. I am interested in almost everything. Aside from my professional interests, which include usability, learning new software technologies and visual and interaction design, I am interested on a wide range of topics: from Geography to History, from escapist fiction novels to movies, from contemporary politics to ancient civiilizations, from Black Holes to Mariana Trench, from facts to mythologies, from...
Q.Duh..., I mean what are you interested in working on? In your work?
A.Hmmm... Since I have such wide interests, I am happiest when my work involves doing more than one thing. I like integrating technologies, making them "talk to each other". I like to work on a problem from finding and designing specifications to implementing and testing solutions. I like a job which makes me think of different approaches, which stretches my creativity and really taps my potential for finding unique and non-conventional solutions. In my ideal job, I will work with the design team on developing interaction design and software specification, help the software team to understand the specifications and if need arises then I can code it too. Eventually I would like to be involved with the user-testing to get first hand feedback on our design.
